The Five Human Senses – Understanding DMIT.

As we all know, humans have five basic senses. They are sight, sound, smell, taste and touch. Our daily life activities require the use of these senses. Either we use one sense or multiple senses to solve a problem/perform an activity. As you’re reading this sentence, you are making the use of vision. Performing functions require the proper functioning of the nervous system. To achieve certain functions, the nervous system should be able to send, receive and process information, mostly from sensory organs. Sensory Organs include eyes, ears, tongue, skin and nose. These organs have special stimuli which send signals to the nervous system. As soon as the signals reach the brain, the brain interprets these signals. This is the basic concept of senses.

Since the senses have a connection with the brain, it is advisable to know about DMIT tests. DMIT tests help in understanding the senses more concisely. So what is DMIT? Many are unfamiliar with DMIT full form. DMIT full form is Dermatoglyphics Multiple Intelligence Test. As you are familiar with DMIT full form, please note DMIT test is useful for any age group. Eventually, DMIT test can help you build a career path based on your interests. DMIT test software helps in career counselling. DMIT tests have proved to be accurate and efficient in many individuals. We at Mastermind Group(DMIT) have been providing them DMIT tests, DMIT Franchise, Midbrain Activation Software and so on for the betterment of individuals. Being the best DMIT Company in India, we offer DMIT software that gives an insight into human senses and various other applications.

Though we know about the senses, let’s analyse each sense, their properties and how they help us in our daily lives. We will also explore the concept of DMIT test and their relation with senses.

Sight:

Eye Diagram

As we all know, the eyes help us to see things around us. Sight, however, is a complex process that helps us to perceive through eyes. Though we know what sight is, let’s look into the aspect of how sight works and how the eye can be a medium to transfer light signals. Please take a good look at the above diagram to understand the working of the eyes.

The light reflects on an object we see. The object is then reflected in our eyes. The cornea bends the light that goes through the pupil. For those who don’t know Cornea, it is the outer layer of the eye. Similarly, the Iris helps in either shutting or widening the light. In other words, Iris acts as a shutter of a camera. Iris is the coloured part of the eye. The cornea focuses on most of the light on the object. We also have a pupil which is an opening to the iris. Pupil acts as a medium for the Iris on how much light passes through it and onto the lens. The curved lens then focuses the image onto the retina.

The retina is the eye’s interior layer. It has a fine membrane of nervous tissue. Retina also has photoreceptor cells that help in translating light to nerve signals. The photoreceptor cells include rods and cones. Rods and Cones help in gathering light. Cones convert light into details, central vision and various colours. The rods convert light into motion and peripheral vision. Rods also give humans night vision, that is, the ability to see things at low light. The obtained information is translated and sent as electrical impulses to the brain through the optic nerve. This is the basic concept of how sight works in humans.

Sight is essential in humans. Obstruction to sight can lead to blindness. Colour blindness can also occur in individuals if the photoreceptor cells fail to perform their functions. Without sight, humans can still compensate with other senses, though it will be difficult for them to adjust.

Sound:

Inner Ear Diagram

As we all know, the ears help us to hear sounds around us. Sounds Waves are generated through ears and converted to sound signals. Though we know what sound is, let’s look into the aspect of how sound works and how the ear can be a medium to transfer sound signals. Please take a good look at the above diagram to understand the working of the human ear.

To hear something, the sound goes through the external ear and passes through the external auditory canal. Firstly, the sound waves travel through the eardrum. The eardrum is a tympanic membrane, that is, a thin connective tissue to facilitate sound waves. Eardrum transfers these vibrations to auditory ossicles. They are found in the middle ear. Auditory ossicles (the malleus, incus, and stapes) carry sound vibrations. It tries to go through the opening to the inner ear. The inner ear has fluid-filled canals and cochlea. As the ossicles move, hair cells in the cochlea of inner ear identify pressure waves in the fluid. Afterwards, they activate nervous receptors. These receptors send signals through the cochlear nerve to the brain. The brain then interprets the signals as sounds.

Hearing is another important sense in humans. Obstruction to hearing can lead to being deaf. The Eustachian tube should be proper so that humans have a sense of balance. The vestibular complex is also important for balance. The vestibular complex is located in the inner ear. It helps in maintaining equilibrium since it contains important receptors. The inner ear has a connection to the vestibulocochlear nerve. This nerve sends equilibrium and sound information to the brain.

Smell:

Smelling through Nose

Humans have a function to smell things around them. The nose facilitates this function. The nose can smell over one trillion scents. Humans have 400 smelling receptors. Though this isn’t as many as animals that are super smellers have, the complex nature of the brain helps in eliminating the difference.

The sense of smell is called olfaction. It takes place at unique nerve receptors that are present on hair-like cilia in the nasal cavity. To be precise, they are present at the epithelium at the top of the nasal cavity. When we smell or sniff something through our nose, these receptors bind chemicals that are present in the air. Afterwards, it triggers a signal that goes up to the nerve fibre. Mainly the movement of the signal is through the epithelium to the olfactory bulbs. The olfactory bulbs contain neuron cell bodies. These cell bodies transmit information along the cranial nerves. Cranial nerves are extensions of the olfactory bulbs. Cranial nerves send the signal down the olfactory nerves, toward the olfactory region of the cerebral cortex. This is how humans can smell things around them.

Poor smelling ability can either be because of ageing or medical disease(like Coronavirus). According to a study, most the people who are aged more than 80 years have trouble in smell. This happens due to olfactory impairment. The combination of smell and taste is called chemosensory system. This is mainly because of transduction. Transduction is nothing but giving the brain information about the chemical composition of objects.

Taste:

Taste Buds

There are four different tastes in human according to the gustatory sense. They are sweet, sour, bitter and salty. In addition, there is one more taste called savory. As we know, taste helps people to analyze the food or plants they eat. A human adult has 2,000 to 4,000 taste buds.

Papillae are small bumps present on the top of the tongue. Papillae like circumvallate papillae and fungiform papillae contain taste buds. While eating, the chemicals from the food enter the papillae. After reaching the papillae, it reaches the taste buds. These chemicals stimulate unique gustatory cells inside the taste buds. This in turn activates nervous receptors. These nervous receptors send signals to fibres of the facial and vagus nerves. Finally, they carry the signals to the medulla oblongata present in the brain. It relays them to the thalamus and also cerebral cortex present in the brain. This is the basic concept of how taste works in humans.

The tongue doesn’t have various zones based on flavours. The sides of the tongue are more sensitive than the middle part of the tongue. The sensory cells in taste buds react to several parts of the five tastes. The flavour is fully experienced and produced only after the combination of different information obtained by the tongue.

Sometimes, people with stuffy nose fail to taste the food. Smells are sent to mouth using olfactory referral. Any obstruction to olfactory system can damage smell as well as taste in humans. The intensity of the taste depends on how the brain perceives it.

Touch:

Touch

The first sense that humans develop is touch. Touch can help humans feel the surroundings around them. Pressure, Vibration and Pain are some aspects related to touch. Based on receptors, different functions are attributed to different parts of the skin.

The skin consists of three main tissue layers. They are the outer epidermis, middle dermis, and inner hypodermis. Certain receptor cells in these layers identify sensations and send signals through peripheral nerves towards the brain. The sensation depends on the presence and location of receptors. Merkel cells, for example, are found in the lower epidermis of hands and lips. Meissner corpuscles can be found in the upper dermis of fingertips. These mentioned receptors can detect pain, pressure, and vibration. Touch receptors like Pacinian corpuscles register pressure and vibration. Also, these nerves cause them to tickle, feel pain and so on. This is how touch works in human beings

Touch can help to maintain the well being of humans. It can also help in making decisions. We touch something every day, be it an object or person. Studies have shown that touching something with a texture can influence decisions people make. Similarly, we use touch to derive certain meanings in our lives. For example, shaking hands, embracing your loved ones have some kind of impact in our lives, either by strengthening or weakening the relationship.

Other Senses:

Apart from the five basic senses, humans have more senses depending on each function. These senses aren’t well perceived by human beings. However, research has been going on to establish these senses. As of now, scientists and psychologists claim that there are close to 53 senses available in humans.

One such sense is how the brain understands when the body is in space. This phenomenon is called Proprioception. It maintains the movement of limbs and hands. For example, when we climb the stairs without looking, it is proprioception. If the person lacks co-ordination, proprioception isn’t developed well in that person.

Thermoception is another sense which helps to identify heat. Another sense is how neuron sensors help in tilting of the head. This will help in the balance of the movement of the head. Various kinesthetic receptors help in identification of stretching in muscles and tendons. This will help people to keep track of their limbs. Some receptors also detect levels of oxygen in certain arteries present in the bloodstream.

Senses can be divided into radiation, feeling, chemical and mental senses. Radiation sense deals with the sense of colour. Feeling senses are mostly related to gravity. Chemical senses are related to hormones. Mental senses are self-related, such as mental and spiritual state of mind in individuals. These are some of the senses present in human beings, though not perceived well.

What is DMIT?

There are many who are unaware of DMIT full form. DMIT full form is Dermatoglyphics Multiple Intelligence Test. Since you know what DMIT full form is, let’s understand the concept of DMIT. DMIT is used to determine the inborn intelligence of individuals using fingerprints. In other words, it’s a study of fingerprints. These fingerprints will be able to determine learning styles, personality, strengths, and weaknesses in an individual.

DMIT test helps to understand these senses, especially touch and mental senses. It depends on the senses of touch, especially on the use of fingertips. There are 5 lobes in our brain – Prefrontal, Frontal, Parietal, Temporal, and Occipital. Our brain is divided into the left and right brain. Based on the lobes, there is a connection with fingerprints from the brain. These fingerprints and lobes are connected simultaneously with each other since birth. These contribute to the senses since each sense are connected to the brain. Therefore, a DMIT test is based on these factors. The results remain the same throughout, irrespective of how many times a DMIT Nepal test is done. Also, DMIT Brain Mapping can help individuals in the success and betterment of their lives.
